About the Trainer/Instructor --Neva La Fleur


La Fleur Stables offers a full service Board and Training for a select American Saddlebreds.  LaFleur Stables specializes in training American Saddlebreds and Saddle Seat riding, providing full-service show or competition preparation for horse and rider. Each horse is placed on an individual training program designed to bring horse and rider together for the show ring. Whether you are looking compete locally or nationally  La Fleur Stables can help you reach your goals. English-style saddle seat riding lessons are offered for people of all ages and riding levels. Through the summer and holiday camps, riders are able to bond with the horses and gain a better understanding of the dedication needed to make riding a lifelong activity. Board and Training:

Daily stall cleaning, bedding, and twice daily feedings, including salt and minerals necessary for a show horse’s diet. Also included are full care and grooming, and professional training. Training time is dictated by the individual horse’s particular needs and abilities. Trainers assess each individual’s progress on a daily basis.  Training includes one non-transferable lesson per week for amateurs to use on their own horse when both horse and rider are ready.  Lessons on other horses will be charged. Trainers also judge when each horse is ready to show, and where the horse would benefit most from showing. When a new horse arrives at LaFleur Stables, the trainers can make a fair and accurate appraisal of the horse’s ability in terms of talent and soundness within 90 days. The owner is then advised whether it is worthwhile to proceed with training. LaFleur Stables offers these services:


  • Boarding and Training your horse(s) $40 a day
  • Plus Sales Tax on Boarding  5.5%


Boarding:

The standard board fee includes daily turnout, daily stall cleaning, and twice daily feedings.  In addition the boarder has access to the indoor arena, storage space and their own tack. All stalls have rubber floor mats and automatic waters. 


  • Maintenance Full-care Board your horse(s) $25 a day
  • Academy Horse Board horse(s) $20 a day also used in Riding Lessons
  • ​Plus Sales Tax on Boarding  5.5%


ALL HORSES MUST ARRIVE WITH CURRENT COGGINS AND REGISTRATION PAPERS.


ALL HORSES ARE REQUIRED TO BE UP TO DATE ON VACCINATIONS.  WE REQUIRE EWT, FLU/RHINO, INTRA NASAL STRANGLES, RABIES, POTOMAC HORSE FEVER AND WEST NILE VACCINATIONS.  WE ENCOURAGE THE OWNER TO HAVE THESE DONE PRIOR TO ARRIVAL.  IF NOT GIVEN PRIOR TO ARRIVAL OR NO RECORD IS PROVIDED UPON ARRIVAL, LA FLEUR STABLES WILL HAVE ANY NECESSARY VACCINATIONS ADMINISTERED BY A LICENSED VETERINARIAN WHO WILL BILL THE OWNER ACCORDINGLY.

Billing

Invoices are mailed or emailed at the end of the month for:

  1. Board and training monthly charges at LaFleur Stables
  2. Additional lessons
  3. Miscellaneous charges such as equipment purchases or vet supplies
  4. Horse show charges for attending shows
  5. Horse show entry fees generally are placed on the owner's credit card. If a show does not accept credit cards, the entry fees will appear on the LaFleur Stables monthly invoice.


Payments are due by the 15th of each month. This allows LaFleur Stables to pay its bills on time: barn mortgage, feed, bedding and payroll. (Please call if your payment will be late.)  If bills are in arrears, horses will not be loaded and taken to a show. There is a 5% service charge for late payments.


Horse Purchases and Sales

LaFleur Stables receives a 10% commission when it acts as an agent for the purchase or sale of a horse. Commissions are paid to LaFleur Stables LLC before a horse enters or leaves LaFleur Stables. The commission on horses bought through public sale is 10% or $1,000, whichever is greater. Horses sold at public auction will not be charged a sales commission. Buyers are responsible for all costs accrued during shopping trips. LaFleur Stables reserves the right to act as agent for both a buyer and a seller of a single horse and charges a 10% commission from both the buyer and the seller. Horses bought with LaFleur Stables as agent will undergo a pre-purchase examination. Pre-purchase examinations may cost from $1,500 - $3,000 depending on the area of the country and the extent of the exam. All sales for which LaFleur Stables acts as the agent will be handled with an official closing.


Sellers will present the following items at closing

  1. Official transfer along with the horse's original papers and a check made out to the American Saddlebred Horse Association.
  2. Commission payment to LaFleur Stables
  3. Signed copy of Bill of Sale 


Buyers will present at closing

  1. Cashiers check or Proof of Wire transfer for the purchase price
  2. Commission payment to LaFleur Stables
  3. Payment for any and all costs incurred while horse shopping
  4. Signed copy of Bill of Sale
  5. Payment for transporting a horse from former owner to LaFleur Stables. (If necessary)


Vets and Farrier - Billed directly to customer

All horse owners are required to follow health and veterinary guidelines promulgated by LaFleur Stables. LaFleur Stables sub-contracts the finest farrier and veterinarians. To maintain good relationships with these specialists, LaFleur Stables asks its clients to pay their veterinarian and farrier bills within five days.


Insurance

It is the responsibility of the owner to have liability and mortality insurance on their horse(s). Usually the insurance premium  is 3% of purchase price of a horse. LaFleur Stables recommends C. Jarvis Insurance Agency, INC. but there are other insurance companies.
