Both Dan and Marlene La Fleur
were born and raised in Stoughton, WI.
This dynamic duo bought their first
horse farm on Highway 138, between
Stoughton and Oregon in 1965;
Marlene had horses growing up and,
as a young woman, had shown
Quarter Horses exclusively with her
father, Arnold Anderson. It was in
1963 that a customer sent, “Mr. Sandman,”
an American Saddlebred, to Marlene for training. That is where her love for Saddlebreds began. Dan and Marlene have devoted their entire lives to American Saddlebreds; although Dan has made his profession as a stock and commodities broker. Dan and Marlene have three grown children; Trond, Liv, and Neva. All three children have always been involved with La Fleur Stables; however, it’s been Neva who has taken on the family business, training the horses and instructing the riding lessons. In the early years, La Fleur Stables trained and competed with many different breeds of horses throughout the Midwest. In 1977, Dan and Marlene relocated the stable to a more complete and elaborate horse facility in Fond du Lac, WI. It was after this move When they decided to specialize in training American Saddlebreds, during their time in Fond du Lac Dan and Marlene successfully trained, bred, and competed with 80 horses. Marlene taught the basics of riding at several schools in Wisconsin, reaching out to people of all ages and riding disciplines. Teaching numerous people the proper way to ride and passing on the importance of respecting and appreciating the horses was Dan and Marlene’s purpose. The two have always been active and involved with state and national American Saddlebred Associations; they’ve served on boards and have served as officers. Dan and Marlene remain active in the horse show business and can regularly be found down in the barn. They still participate and compete on a regular basis. A fourth generation of La Fleur horse enthusiasts includes seven grandchildren who also compete in horse shows and work in at the stables. La Fleur Stables purchased the 15 acres in 1995. Was able to build a state of the art Stables with accommodation all year around. It sits on 15 rolling acres in the heart of Dane County. It was with great pride that the La Fleur’s choose this property to be the forever home of their founded Wisconsin business. We hope to provide a facility that exceeds the expectations of even the most discerning eye. Marlene designed the beautiful new horse barn and riding arena; the facility is a millennium barn with all of the latest technology and conveniences. Although, it’s not the technology that makes the barn what it is; the barn would not be complete without the talented and beautiful show horses owned by customers, some who are extended family members. The current facility allows LaFleur Stables to offer a large-scale lesson program. The nationally recognized training staff offers the very best in Saddlebred instruction. La Fleur also offers overnight Airbnb accommodations to our out of town clients. La Fleur’S home is also on the property, enabling owners to have direct oversight of the horses in their care 24/7.
