HISTORY OF DAN & MARLENE LA FLEUR

La Fleur means “the flower” in French. Born and raised in Stoughton, WI, Dan and Marlene (Anderson) La Fleur bought their first horse farm on Highway 138 between Stoughton and Oregon in 1965. Marlene had horses all her life and had shown Quarter Horses extensively with her father Arnold. It was in 1963 that a customer sent Mr. Sandman, a Saddlebred, to Marlene for training, that her love for American Saddlebred began. Her first Saddlebred earned the Reserve World's Champion title at Louisville’s World Championship Horse Show.

During the early years of La Fleur Stables many different horse breeds were trained and exhibited by Marlene and Dan throughout the Midwest. In 1977 Dan and Marlene relocated to Fond du Lac, WI to a more complete and elaborate horse facility and at that time decided to specialize in the American Saddlebred. Marlene and Dan were a very successful team throughout the Midwest. They trained, showed and bred 80 head of horses for customers during that time.

They have influenced and taught many people the proper way to ride, appreciate, and respect the horse. Marlene and Dan have been involved with the State and National American Saddlebred Associations serving on boards and also as officers. They have also managed and been active in many horse shows around the state of Wisconsin. Marlene taught riding at several schools in the state reaching out to people of all ages and disciplines.

They have devoted and dedicated their entire lives to the American Saddlebreds. Dan (a stock & commodity broker) and Marlene have three children, Trond, Liv, and Neva, who acts as the trainer and instructor, as well as manager for the facility. Their interest, involvement and enthusiasm are just as evident today as it has been throughout their lives. They are very active in the horse show scene and at the barn itself. They participate and compete on a regular basis. The fourth generation of horse enthusiasts include seven grandchildren who also compete in horse shows.

In 2001, their dream came true when La Fleur Stables moved into a new horse barn and arena personally designed by Marlene. The new facility is a millennium barn with all of the latest technology and conveniences. The barn is complete with talented and beautiful show horses owned by wonderful customers and clients. A large lesson program also offers only the best in Saddlebred instruction with an excellent staff.
